Do I need an Apostille.

An Apostille is an international certification comparable to a notarization in domestic law, and normally supplements a local notarization of the document. If the convention applies between two countries, such an apostille is sufficient to certify a document's validity, and removes the need for double-certification, by the originating country and then by the receiving country.

There are two types of Apostilles that could be involved in your translation request.

• Documents apostille. This is where you obtain an Apostille on the original document from the issuing body. E.g. If you have a document (e.g birth certificate) issued in your home country (e.g. France) to be used abroad (e.g. Japan), then you'd require an Apostille from France certifying your birth certificate.
  
  We (Translayte) will then proceed to translate both, the birth certificate & the Apostille, into Japanese. Which then makes it acceptable in Japan (or at a Japanese embassy).
  
  We can assist in obtaining Document Apostilles for a UK-issued document at a fee of £70 + VAT. It may however be cheaper for you were to do this yourself on the GOV.UK website here, but the process may take longer. 

Note: Unfortunately, we cannot assist with documents issued outside of the UK at this time, but we are working on adding this service for documents issued outside of the United Kingdom in the near future.

• Translation apostille. This is where we (Translayte) have your document translated, then obtain an Apostille on the translation.
  This is also known as a Legalized Translation and is useful when you translate a document in one country (e.g. UK), which is to be used abroad, or at a foreign embassy (e.g. Korea).
  
  The legalized translation assures the receiving authority that the translation has been done by a competent professional, as their signature has been certified by a Notary Public, whose signature has in turn been certified by an authority in the country. At this time we can only provide apostilles issued in the UK for our translations. 

We can obtain an Apostille on all translations we complete. This also requires a Notary Public and will be reflected in the quote provided.
